"The times, they are a changin'."   Bob Dylan's words were true in the 60's, and they're true today at Opening Blind Eyes. Inmates have begun to contribute financially to our ministry. One inmate gave a gift this month that represents 50 hours of his labor! That was a tremendous vote of confidence. I pray that God honors his "widow's mite." 85% of our congregation has been transferred to other institutions. In spite of this, the congregation continues to grow. In fact, it's now larger than it's ever been! This is a work of God. Can you imagine what might happen to a congregation on the outside if 85% of its members were transferred in the course of three months? The staff members are under significant strain, because of budgetary cutbacks. Several have sought me out in the halls to ask for help in their own personal and family lives. I am honored that I have earned their trust. Some staff usually dismiss volunteers as naive do-gooders who only want to "give the thug a hug." The financial situation has gotten worse for the nation and for Opening Blind Eyes. Because of financial stresses, I may not be able to continue my work at Opening Blind Eyes. It breaks my heart, since the fields are white for harvest. God is faithful indeed. Since the word got out about our financial struggles, several generous gifts have arrived. And I am so grateful. However, the Opening Blind Eyes Ministry Board has estimated that we need 10 more people to pledge $100.00 a month or 20 more people to pledge $50.00 a month for the ministry to remain solvent.
